oil price and my work

oil price is coming down and unstable these days...means jobs related to this industry will shrink...

closest example is my next job was delayed nearly 3 months...it should start on next june but shifted to end of next year...

what should i do within next year?....hmm..have to think all abt it again n again.

now the oil price had gone down, everybody feels the heat..not only in oil industry, but civils, constructions and others too..

hmm..our country economic downturn was around 96..97...10 years ago..oil booms was around 90 or late 80s..and second boom was on early 2000..

does this mean that economic cycle is abt 10 years?...up and down in 10 years?..

lets see oil..

early 70s and mid 70s had oil crisis in the us and japan..then in 80s again..but not quite heavy crisis...then in mid 90s....now in the mid 2000s?..70, 80, 90, 00...cycle of 10 years..next maybe arnd 2015..

lets see our countrys growth..

after merdeka..all was abt agriculture...getah..sawit..nenas..n so on..then went to seramics, electronics...then oil....then automotive...then our famous MSC...

whats next?...

i bet it would be medical industry..

population in the world is gettin bigger..our country also now have more than 25 mill ppl...and soon will reach 30 mill...

so wee need more doctors, nurses, medical asistant, hospitals, clinics...and of course.."kilang obat"..haha..

sure u dont want to import medicines bcoz its cheaper and safer to make it our own..so medical based "refinary" should and will be popular later on.

to penetrate this industry is not simple...even i know certain pumps, but pumps that will be used in this industry should be special..not to pump germs...

and other things should be free of contaminants...and clean..hehe..clean room?..no 10?..or 1000?..

now our country starting to focus on biofuel, biodiesel..but how long will it last?..

even we have "sampah kelapa sawit"..but who will plant these sawit?..is it will last long enuf?.

"hampas nenas", "hampas tebu"...haha..u will go around pasar malam every day to collect hampas tebu"?

i dont think so....even you do..maybe u have to buy it from the "tokeh air tebu"....even our batang tebu also being imported from nearby country...so supply for this tebu is not enuf..for our bioxxxx industry.

now the world is down..n our pm is only concentrating on the "country" not ppl..so we as the ppl has to think on what to do and expect in near future..

if ure now mid 30s...next 10 years u will be mid 40s, and the economic downturn will come again.do u think that ur employer will hire u still?..paying more comparing to the fresh grads?..that they can pay less and "buli" more?..

then ull be mid 50s...then again the economy will go down...n that time..if u quit or being retrenched...its very difficult to search new job..


im worried, same with all of you out there...so have to think and act fast..

got many tempting offers for the past years...working in midlle east..with wages up to 10k usd per month...but how long it will last?..

maybe if i join that company..in few months they will send me home..haha..all that is in my mind.

to take the money...or stability..or what?..i dont know..

oil n gas industry will be cloudy for now and expected to get its "sun" again the earliest by end of next year....

sooooo many projects are being cancelled and reconsidered lately...more and more companies will stop giving tenders...many ppl will be out of job soon and..riot in some countries will come.

so work hard (for now) and try to keep ur position at its best...not to "jilat bontot bos" but just to "survive" now.

i dont use this actually..but i know how to use it..this item is very important when u take aradiograph..like ur chest xray film...but im not xraying ppl chests..i xrays metals..haha..


mobile phone

mobile phones become smaller each time and high tech..but mine is the simple and old one...why?...bcoz if i drop it from 5 mtr height also i still can use it and its cheap.n im not using any other functions...only use to call, receive call, sms..thats all.

internet?..i rather use my pc...cameraa?..ill use my digicam....calendar?...sometimes..notes?...im not that important to have my schedule up to each seconds...

so nokia 1110i is just enuf for me..n why nokia?...easy to "borrow" other ppls charger..hehe..

illumination test

ha...my job site is nearly complete...handed over to client but with some exceptions.like insulation jobs, painting and stencilling works...

main piping work and others had finished and commisioned to success...waiting for real hydrocarbons being feeded in and processed.

nice snap shot for illumination test...just switched on all the lights and check if all is blinking or fused off or switched on but not bright enuff or anything that needs repair and remove.

night snap shot is very nice not like day time..dusty and too bright.

maybe later ill take other snap shot and ill share it with you.hehe

a bit abt welding

welding...is joining two materials together with or without other additional material... many types of welding in the world...arc welding, resistance welding, termite welding, chemical welding and so on.

normally in my field, we are using arc welding and this arc welding consist of so many ways and thecnique but mainly is smaw (shielded metal arc welding), gtaw (gas tungsten arc welding), saw (submerge arc welding), fcaw (flux cored arc welding), mig/mag (metal inert/active gas welding) and so on..

these are types of welding that are usually used and handy..except for saw that need quite a big machine and equipments. others is small generator or inverter like box and a hold torch.

ive been doing some welding qualifications here at site. for most of the time, usually we do mech. test but at site, these machines or equipments are limited. so for some welding like fillets or seals welds, we will weld bettween two materials, cut them, smooth them with fine sand papers and do

chemical etching... chemical etching is to make all the fusion line visible to naked eye and to make sure that both material bond together to make sound welds...means had enough stregth, bond properly both chemically and mechanically, have no defects (cracks, hole or others) and acceptable with visual appearance...

all these requirements have its own criteria and has to follow strict intl law or gov law or client codes..


here is one sample of etched welds photo..u can see the material bonds and the border is a bit black..that is the heat affected zone (haz) area...this area is quite critical area but depends on the material type...if air hardened material, this area we should see carefully but mild steel..usually will have no problem despite some trouble comes from this area reported back in early years of welding.

this weld is a sound weld, but actually not a good ectched photo. should clean and polish more to remove the cutting line and make clean etch. at site with limited tools, im quite satisfied. but if in a lab, this etched surface should be rejected and need more polishing.

so as for site condition and client agreed that this test piece had passed it test and its qualified to be used for welding...and the welding activity started...hehe

jobs in oil n gas industry

many people wonder what type of work that you can do in oil and gas industry...many things thatyou can work as long as you have the speciality and knowledge.

oil and gas...have many types of jobs depending on what stage the "plant" is..

either its onshore, offshore, running plant or construction plant. oil and gas plants does not meanit handles oil n gas only, chemicals, power, water plant, air plant, steam and so on...nowadays ppl call it as cogeneration plant.

it has all, main core plant (either oil base or chemical), utility plant (power, water, steam, airand etc) and shipping plant (loading arm, bay, packaging and etc).

so depend on what plant and where, you can get any job that u want and willing to do. illdescribe here some that maybe you can easyly get it.

- scaffolder
these ppl erect scaffoldings up to high places..if youre afraid of heights..just forget abt it.hehe..u have to have the "balls" to do this job..i dont..haha.

- welders
welding any type of materials, mainly carbon steel and stainless steel. beware of the humes andbright light as older you gets, ur eyes will glare and maybe ull have lung dease. but if ure a smoker..then no worry..hehe.

- rigger
these ppl "tie" anything and everything to the cranes. and cranes will pull these things up to theair or where it needs to be fitted in. from 1kg tools to 5000 tonnes equipment. all riggers have to do. and same with scaffolders, if you are afraid of heights...just forget abt it.

- crane operator
this job is quite relaxing and nice..ull be in a covered place and most modern cranes have air-conand some of them even have fm radio. sometimes ull have to go up to high places cranes (tower crane)or sometime just on the ground (crawling)...n if u have the speciality, u can operate the 5000 tonne crane (only a few in the world) and they pay u good money too.

- project engineer
this job is quite demanding, but opposite to the title, ull be like a runner...name is great "project engineer" but the thing that ull do is run here, run there to solve problems..betweenthe client and subcons...quite tiring but good expirience. and u have to know everything in theproject..from small nut and bolts to big reactors...not for me...hehe

- piping engineer
as the title it self..ull be desiginin piping layouts, materials, valves locations and so on. the mosttiring and tense work in any project. becoz piping is the key to every jobs completion. usually in many projects, if the piping work is good...the project will end fast..but if u fucked up in early stage...ull suffer until the end..haha.

- qc engineer
my speciality...working as qc for quite some time now...all things u have to know and have to maintainat least minimum requirements of quality...some times the client wants more, and never they wantit less quality...of coz we have to cope up with construction schedule...most of the timeure powerfull and some time words that u say will only be like a fly flying near ur ears...its a trickyjob that needs fast action and result. also need tonnes of qualifications. the more u have doesntmean u know more...hehe.

- qc inspector
this will be under qc engineer supervision...all discipline will have their own inspector...piping/welding, electrical, instruments, mechanical, rotating, painting, insulation, refractory,civil, structure..

basically, these inspectors go to inspect that the workmanship have minimum level of quality or not.

- material control
to control all materials that come and goes from warehouse...shipping and logistics also fall underthis section...loading, unloading, stacking...all these skills are required..need to do the jobfast but efficient..

- safety personell
this work..erm most workers doesnt like these safety ppl, same like qc inspectors..to ensurethat job site is in secure positions and safe to work...from fire safety, rigging safety, heights,scaffolds, confined space, flammable and hazardous gasses and etc.

erm..these are some kind of jobs that u can have in oil n gas job site...no matter what u stillneed to learn even u have 20 years of experience...

maybe if i can remember other jobs, ill write in future.

my interview with petttt (once upon a time ago)

this is one of many series of me hating our own local big oil company.

the time was nearly 10 years ago but still fresh in my mind and the anger and hate still in me. tried to kill that but still cant and daily its become greater and greater.

i was in my final year for my degree...usually in japan, during that time almost all studenthave jobs from known companies and very less are still struggling to get jobs.

my malaysian frenz also had secured their jobs in matsushita, hitachi, pioneer and so on. i did went to the interviews but i dont know why, i didnt get the job. clearly im not that good enuf for that company.

then there was an opportunity going to interview with our pettt..

im so happy and get ready for the interview...many things i read before that..econs in malaysia,technology in malaysia..oil technologies and so on..

got to the interview and passed...untill final interview (i think the 4th one)...

there are 4 other ppl with me that time...

ok no hussle, relax and answer with honesty and correctly....

then at the end of the interview, the panels tell me that they cant hire me now but they will put my files in their archives..

humm..just wondering and asked them "em do u mind to tell me why i didnt get hired?"

one of them just like "sengih sindir" and said "we are sorry, we only hire our scholars".

humm...what the fxxx...

u already knew im not ur scholar before, and before i even attended the interviews but stillwhy did u call me and let me passed all the interviews before?..

just to waist my time so that i cant try to find any other jobs in other companies?

come on...searching for jobs was not easy that time..was in end of 2000..97 malaysia economic downturn..many ppl get sacked, many ppl "mengangur" and very difficult to get good jobs.
even in japan the hiring rate was very low...

hmm..i went out of the meeting and said to them "thank you for your time" ..i did want to say"thank you for waisting my time" but thinking later on maybe ill face the same ppl, so i triedto be nice..haha.

i met other 4 ppl and asked if they are pet scholar..n they were!...later on i knew that all those 4 pplget hired and were sent to several places for training and work..

so to those ppl out there that are from pet scholars or from unipet...

just think back and pls realize that ure lucky enuf to be hired without any questions..apart from have to sign for a looooong bonding period (7 years?..)

rather than ppl that have good grades and trying very hard to get into pet..but cant just simply becoz they are not "pet ppl".

be more ambitious and learn more to make our ppl stronger..and can survive in "mat saleh" monopoly world.

now im not "iri hati" with all of you pet guys becoz i know that u did join pet bcoz of ur "pet status" not bcoz ur talent...but this only applies with freshies..

for otai2 out there, dont be mistaken...ure been hired becoz of ur "pengalaman" and some of u becoz of your "cables and kroni"...haha..

so for freshies...dont just brag around and showing off to other ppl your "petronas executive" name card...as u join as an executive but ure still "kuli"...haha.

our most "respected" company's employee attitude

this had happened to me several times before..i was pissed off by this ppl acting that theyare very good just becoz they are our client..

this actual event happened to me 4 years ago..in a normal office and a normal meeting room in japan.

our client is the well known Pxxxxnas...in the mtg room there was my bos, me, some other guys inaccountings and project execution..

the client was only 3...one from accounts..one from engring..one from project..

the mtg went quite well actually...n just before lunch break..my bos introduce me to otherswhat is my work scope..n so on..

ok the client account lady...it was a young lady..maybe mid 20s and she asked for a "nasik lemak" and"jus mangga"..nasik lemakk in japan?..during lunch time?..are u crazy?..

my bos asked me to find one..ok i know there is one asian stall nearby..thank god!..

ordered one nasik lemak, with sambal ikan bilis, with egg and cucumber...ok nasik lemak settled..
now jus magga...hmm..i bought one bottle of jus mangga...the simple one like orange jus..

i sent it to the mtg room and the lady just looked at the nasik lemak n said..i want sambal sotongn telur mate kebau..not telur rebus..n u know what..she wants the pure mango jus..

haha..i just said..this is only that i can get for you..

then she said..im ur client..do what i asked..damn..i just left with the nasik lemak n jus..

after lunch..she said to all.." i dont want to see this face..get him out of here"..

n i left..dont bother to know what happened after that.

this is the attitude of our ppl..ive been working with more respected oil companies..shell, aramco, exxon, eni gas, sumitomo chem n so on...but not so "kurang hajar" like our ppl.

damn i hate those kind of ppl..that is our ppl...

if u want to "buli", buli at right place la..not like that..n im not ur dog..

since then, i dont respect these ppl and sorry to say i dont respect that comp...in the name card
yes "manager" or "exec"..but in the real office..ure just a normal employee and still reportingto your boss..

client..yes..but not like that being client..

some of my frenz..have to give their watches...n some of them have to buy them something to give..just to get the contract or to get the job done.

n some of them..went to japan..n asking for "rasuah sex"..haha..

get ur own pussy la..dont ask other ppl to get it for you....language is not the barrier..if u know how to talk to girls..n ull get it no matter how..not using ur money or power..

if "penakut"..balik kampong tanam jagong la..

sorry to all..but pls if ure in the position to "buli" ppl..buli in the right way.."buli" to buildour ppl...not to "buli" to kill our ppl..
